201,800 miles
1st Owner (VA) = 193,500 miles (mostly Freeway, we believe, due to bike rack paint wear under license plate).
2nd Owner (VA)(my mother-in-law) = 8,500 miles (in 2 years).
She is leaving the country for a few years; hence the reason she has asked me to sell it for her.
Having said that, the car is in near mint condition cosmetically, and the interior is pristine, as you can see from the pictures.
KBB.com says, given the condition of the car, it has a resale value of about $5,167.
A car with 202,000 miles on it will obviously need things replaced.
Having said that, I believe in being upfront, honest and transparent, as that it is the right thing to do, and respects everybody’s time.
I took the car to a VERY reputable mechanic, and paid to have it given a full inspection, and will tell you about mechanical things that need to be addressed (this is not an exhaustive list, as no one has a crystal ball, nor has the time to go over a car with a fine-toothed comb, but he gave me notes on things that need to be addressed (some sooner, some later, some not at all (if you don’t care about them)).
The catalytic converter is rusted, and causing the Engine Light to come on occasionally.
Florida doesn’t do emissions inspections, so if it doesn’t matter to you, you don’t necessarily need to fix it and can keep driving it the way it is (I have a “FixD” dashboard plug-in that will not only tell you anything and everything about the car, but will also allow you (through the app), to reset the dashboard “Engine” light, if it bothers you).
Needs replacing / tending to, sooner rather than later:
• Rear Brakes
• Engine Mounts (cracked, but not broken)
• Transmission Fluid and Oil Change
Needs replacing at some point, but has a little more time on it, so your mechanic can help you determine the best time to get things done:
• Front Struts and Rear Shocks
• Power Steering Suction Hose (slight leak, if I remember correctly)
• Upper and Lower Ball Joints
• Outer Tie Rod Ends and Alignment
• VT EC Valve and Valve Cover Gasket (small leak, if I remember correctly).
Some things to keep in mind…
This car is cosmetically gorgeous (as you can see from the pictures), given that it’s 17 years old, and as I said, with 202K miles on it, it’s bound to eventually need repairs, as all cars of this age and mileage do.
When I asked my mechanic if I should buy the car from my MIL, and fix the issues, he said that if I did, thought it would last me at least another 6 years (maybe more….these cars are damn near bullet-proof, and don’t forget that this engine has a timing CHAIN, NOT a BELT, and chains usually last WAY longer then belts, and almost never need changing).
While I did entertain the idea, as the car is SUPER clean, rides incredibly smooth, and the A/C blows super cold, amongst many other benefits…I live in an area where it sometimes takes up to an hour to find parking (which never happens with my motorcycle), so I’m just not willing to buy the car myself, for that reason. If I had a garage, there’s a 95% chance I wouldn’t be listing this car, given the condition it is in overall, and the fact that my own family has had two of these Accords, and they are just great cars (if they weren’t we wouldn’t keep buying them).
As I mentioned before, KBB.com estimates that this car is worth $5,167 for VG condition (I didn’t enter any of the things that needed to be replaced). Since I’m aware that it does need some things fixed, I’m looking to get $4,550 for it.
Having said that, since I have been open and honest with you, PLEASE respect me and my time, and DON’T try to lowball with offers of “a pack of gum and a broken moped” in exchange, or some ridiculously low monetary offer.
If you happen to be a mechanic, and are looking to get your daughter/son a car, and can do the work yourself, you’ve hit the jackpot (IMO), as this car should get them through college and beyond once you do the work.
The car, to the best of my knowledge, has spent its life in Virginia (not here in Miami), if rust is a concern for some buyers. I only recently drove it down from Virginia to here, for the purpose of selling it.
Last thing, car is currently located in North Miami Beach (and is not being driven).
The pictures were taken on an overcast day, at sundown, so trees behind me/the camera were casting shadows on the car/paint, so if any pictures look like two-tone paint, or bad paint-matching, that is just an illusion due to the clouds and shadows where I took the pictures.
Anyway, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
