Finished in a candy red with a bronze rooftop, sun visor and side stripe, this 1957 Chevrolet Cameo Pickup has been customized to provide a more modern look and feel while building on the classic elements. Powered by a 6.0L Corvette LS2 V-8 engine with an Aeromotive fuel pump and automatic transmission, the engine is subtly dressed with polished components and a bar across the valve covers reading “Chevrolet Cameo 57.” Nestled into a well-finished, color-matched engine bay, the truck is equipped with power steering and 4-wheel power disc brakes, making the Cameo much easier to drive and enjoy. The interior is fully customized with two-tone beige and tan leather upholstery with custom stitching and matching door panels. The dashboard features a padded top and lower portion with built-in cup holders; the center section is painted candy red and hosts a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit and controls for the Vintage Air. A custom wood-rimmed steering wheel is set atop a tilt steering column, and Classic Instruments gauges are positioned in a field of polished metal. Tinted glass helps keep temperatures reasonable and block damaging UV rays. Chrome bumpers, grille and detailing highlight the exterior in classic fashion, along with a finished bed complete with polished hardware. Rolling on custom 5-spoke alloy wheels and low-profile tires, this 1957 Chevrolet Cameo is certain to draw a crowd anywhere it rolls.
During the 1950s, some small business owners who needed a truck wanted one that provided style, panache and comfort with a high level of amenities. The need largely came from some people using their truck for both professional and personal use, people who wanted to have an enjoyable vehicle during their own time but a vehicle that could get the job done while impressing clients along the way. Chevrolet responded by introducing the Cameo pickup for 1955, a stylish, two-tone pickup with stylized fiberglass rear fenders, specialized upholstery, unique trim and a large array of options. It was not inexpensive, but Chevrolet sold about 10,000 during that first year.
