We are excited to offer this tastefully modified, real-deal 1970 Porsche 914/6 in an online, reserve-price auction. The seller has owned this car since 1984 and, during that time, restored and modified the car.
Bidding opened Wednesday, June 28th, 2023, and continues through 6:00 PM Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
This 1970 Porsche 914/6 currently resides as part of the seller’s collection in Rockway, New Jersey.
This 1970 Porsche 914/6 is actually the second one owned by the current caretaker. He bought his first Porsche 914/6 brand new in the early 1970s, and as much as he loved the car, a growing family and the desire to buy a home meant the Porsche needed to be sold by the late 1970s. He regretted selling his first 1970 Porsche 914/6 every day from that point, and when an opportunity to buy another Porsche 914/6 came along in the mid-1980s, he jumped at owning his second example. That is the Porsche 914/6 for sale featured here.
As great as the handling and performance of the 1970 Porsche 914/6 is in stock form, the seller elected to improve upon Porsche’s design with a number of tasteful performance, handling, and comfort upgrades. Starting with the engine, this 1970 Porsche 914/6 features a 3.5 Liter air-cooled flat-six built by Dawes Motorsports. Ported and polished heads, a dual plug MSD ignition, SC cams, 11:1 compression, dual 45IDA Weber carbs, and stainless steel headers fitted with factory-style heater boxes all contribute to offering 300 dyno-tested horsepower. Keeping things cool is a front-mounted oil cooler.
Handling all that power is a rebuilt transaxle equipped with a gear set better suited to take full advantage of the engine’s performance curve. Sending all that power equally to both rear wheels is a rebuilt limited-slip differential.
Handling improvements include Bilstein shocks mounted at all four corners, bigger front and rear sway bars, and reinforced trailing arms. Stopping improvements include vented rotors mounted at all four corners and Boxster-sourced Brembo front calipers.
This 1970 Porsche 914/6 features a repaint in its original factory shade of Sunshine Yellow (Porsche Paint code 1029). Before. the repaint, the seller installed custom rear fender flares designed to fit meaty Bridgestone Potenza 275/40ZR17 rear tires mounted on HRE Fuchs 17″ x 10″ wheels. Up front are matching 17″ wheels shod with 235/45ZR17 Bridgestone Potenzas.
The interior of this 1970 Porsche 914/6 for sale features a tasteful mixture of upgrades over stock. The original seats are now heated, and feature leather hides in a two-tone black-and-gray pattern. The dashboard, knee pad, header, and roll bar pads were all stripped and recovered by Just Dashes in California. Stock-looking gauges have been reworked to feature a 200 MPH speedometer and a 7000-RPM red line tach and in addition to numerical temperature and oil pressure gauges. Beyond the distinct sound of the car’s air-cooled flat-six, this 1970 Porsche 914/6 features a modern Bluetooth-enabled stereo powered by ADS amplifiers that send signals to upgraded speakers and a subwoofer. A nice touch is a power antenna.
