Gotta’ love those big, scary looking SUVs to aggressively chase down the bad guys. Surprisingly, it’s not a V8, but an actual hybrid.
9. Austrian Police: Porsche 911 Carrera
Perfect for the rolling hills and mountainous highways of Austria, the Porsche 911 Carrera was the last petrol car of the long-used 911 series adopted by Austrian traffic police. It served excellent service to Austrian traffic police forces as long as it was used. 8. Abu Dhabi Police: The Lykan Hypersport
Can’t outrun this bitch. One of only seven such cars to exist. Each one costs around $2m, and features a 3.7-litre twin-turbo flat-six with 750bhp. W Motors reckons on 0-62mph in 2.8secs and a top speed of 242 mph.

Replacing the Crown Vic, Chrysler claims the Charger Pursuit to be the fastest American police car with their ever powerful Hemi V8 engines: the RWD version clocked the fastest lap time ever recorded for a cop car around Michigan State Police’s Vehicle Evaluation Race. With its unique nasty look it’s nothing less than a cool police car.
6. Dubai Police: The Brabus G63 AMG
Popo badass. This 690bhp ‘Widestar’ can accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and on to an official top speed of 149mph. Unofficially, you’d have to be clinically bonkers to attempt to outrun any police force that ultimately decides on a four-wheel-drive, modified off-roader as a suitable police vehicle.
5. Dubai Police: The BMW i8
Dubai’s police fleet is one of the coolest police fleet in the world and the BMW i8 the world’s top-selling plug-in electric sports car, so together, they’ve created one of the world’s most amazing law enforcement vehicles. The 2015 BMW i8 delivers acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.

2. Italian Polizia: Ferrari 250 GTE
There’s just something smooth about this throwback selection. A Ferrari with a badge. So back in the 1960s the Polizia graduated from Alfa 1900s to Giulia 1600 Saloons, but they still weren’t fast enough. Policeman Armando Spatafora was asked by the top brass what he needed to keep pace. “What could be better than a Ferrari?” he replied.
And a Ferrari he got. Finished in black with a hard-wearing tan leatherette interior, chassis #3999 was in active service from 1963 to late-1968. Spatafora was one of only four officers allowed to drive it, having travelled to Maranello for high-speed training.
