6 Reasons to Love the New Corolla Cross

The 2022 Corolla Cross recently made its U.S. debut last. Here are six reasons to check out the new compact crossover when it arrives at dealerships later this year.

Versatility and Convenience – Ample cargo capacity and 60/40-split folding rear seats give you lots of options to flex your space. A power liftgate is also available. And, it’s packed with thoughtful comfort features, even for rear seat passengers: they’ll love the rear seat vents, USB ports, and folding center armrest.

Take Your Pick: FWD or AWD – The drivetrain will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations – a first for Corolla. The AWD version employs Toyota’s clever Dynamic Torque Control system. It can direct up to 50% of the engine’s power to the rear wheels when it’s needed (such as when driving in inclement weather) and then disengages completely when it’s not.

It Packs a Punch – The 2.0-liter Dynamic Force inline four-cylinder engine can generate up to 169 horsepower. Mate that with the Direct Shift Continuously Variable Transmission found on the Corolla sedan’s sporty S grade and you get a physical first gear that produces a truly engaging driving experience.

It Can Tow?! – That’s right, the Corolla Cross will be capable of towing up to 1,500 pounds. Yet it’s also exceptionally efficient with manufacturer-estimated combined fuel economy ratings of 32 mpg for the FWD model and 30 mpg for the AWD.

Standard Safety and Tech – Enjoy peace of mind knowing that Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, the STAR Safety System and 10 airbags come standard on all grades. In-car infotainment options include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa compatibility.

New Vehicle and All-New plant — The Corolla Cross will be the very first Toyota vehicle to roll off the assembly line at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing in Huntsville, Alabama. When fully up to speed, the joint venture is expected to employ 4,000 team members and will be able to assemble 300,000 vehicles annually.
